Oli used a mirror as a point of reference when painting his self-portrait. This posed as a new challenge for the young artist since he wasn’t able to use photos or pictures as an aid anymore, only his reflection.
Oli took the challenge in his stride and completely owned it. By using the mirror, Oli learnt news ways of working, exploring the contours of his face, he got very playful with the mirror and started using his reflection to his advantage. You can see text written on his apron, it may be hard to decipher at first, but it definitely can be read once you look at it through the mirror! Oli also used his signature numbers and intricate line work to create unique and beautiful patterns on the apron and background, this added to what was already a dynamic self-portrait.
